Last night I had an amazing photographic experience!
I wanted to try out some night photography of the Milky Way for the first time so I found a very dark place around 30 km from where I live and went there. It was so amazingly beautiful and dark at the location. I have actually never before seen the Milky Way with my naked eyes, but there it was!
Among the photos I managed to capture this “selfie” with three meteors from the Perseid meteor shower in the shot!
I used a 20 sec self-timer so that I had some time to get up there. Then I had to stand still for the 30 sec exposure.
Gear I used
Camera: Nikon D750 – Great fullframe camera that handles high ISO very well. Lens: Nikkor 16-35mm f/4 – Not the ideal lens for astrophotography. I would suggest a wide angle lens with af aperture of f/2.8 or faster. Tripod: Gitzo GT5541LS – A very sturdy tripod, but also a bit heavy. Ballhead: Sirui K-40X – A strong ballhead, you will need that for heavy camera gear. Accessories: Triggertrap mobile kit, Torchlight, Red Bull
Exif for this photo: f/4 | ISO 6400 | 16 mm | 25 sec
Edited in Lightroom CC – check out the before and after.
I will be editing the shots for the timelapse that I took very soon and post them here. If you want to get noticed when I post it, please follow me on Facebook or Instagram.
Update: Here is the very short timelapse. 145 pictures which gives just 6 seconds of footage.
Need to make an all nighter soon 👌
Here are some of the other shots I got that night.
